Facilities & Parks in the Craighall & Craigpark area
Our immediate vicinity includes a variety of easily accessible amenities. Within a one to three kilometre radius, you can do yoga or karate at the Craighall Sports Club, donate blood, have riding lessons, cycle or walk along the Braamfontein Spruit, enjoy great coffee, or have your hair and nails done. We also have the The Woods, Dunkeld West, Lancaster Village and Valley shopping centres within our suburbs and Hyde Park Corner is a stone’s throw away. Hirsch’s Homestore has a branch on our doorstep, with appliances of all sizes.
The Craighall Sports Club
The Craighall Sports Club offers a range of mostly sporting activities. Contact club manager Tony McLeish (079 587 1486) for information and to become a member. A lovely family restaurant, AJs in the Park, is located at the club and Voyk and Courtney and their team offer great food, jumping castles for children and a wonderful view. Behind this club is the Craighall Tennis Club where Game, Set Match Tennis Academy offers tennis coaching. Contact Carla on 083 445 9777. Walk for Life meets here too.
Public Parks
Our public parks include Hugh Wyndham Park in Dunkeld West with its children’s playground; the Hamilton Avenue park with swings on Hamilton Avenue, adjacent to Parkhurst; two small park areas in Craighall, both accessible from Waterfall Avenue; and then part of the 22 kms of the Braamfontein Spruit for cycling, dog walking, birding, walking. Jozi Trails, a non-profit group, is working in this area to develop trails which they will maintain.
The Craighall Village Market
The Craighall village market is held on the first Saturday of each month at the Wesleyan Church, Norfolk Avenue, from 08h30 – 13h00. Meet neighbours over a cup of tea, or buy fresh veggies, plants and arts and crafts. For information / or to book a table contact Paulette Malcolm.
Riding Stables
The riding stables and River Rangers are located at REEA on Marlborough Avenue. The Egoli Rangers also offer disabled therapy and pony parties
Craigpark Scout Hall
An active scout troop meets at the Craighall Park Scout Hall on Buckingham Avenue.
Deansgate Retirements Village
We have Deansgate retirement village; the REEA Foundation caring for for adults living with epilepsy and mild mental disorders who cannot be accommodated in a normal family environment; and the Sunshine Centre in Craighall which supports children with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities, their families and communities.
