On 28th July just after 9pm, a fire started at a local Craighall Park business at the corner of Jan Smuts and Lancaster Avenues. 🔥
The Build It hardware and building supplies store was up in flames. There were a number of small explosions heard by nearby residents which were mostly likely canisters and paint cans.
Local Ward Councillor, Martin Williams, was on-site close to midnight and spoke to the business owner, Shafique. It’s not known yet what the cause was, but so far the damage seems to be mostly on the top floor and the roof. No injuries were reported and the nearby flats are also ok. The brave firemen from Fire Ops have been highly praised for their excellent work.
