Following the passing of Ward 90 Councillor Martin Williams, a municipal by-election will be held to elect a new councillor to represent our ward. This is an important opportunity for us as residents to have a say in who speaks for our community in Council.

Key Dates

  • Voter Registration Weekend: Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th October 2025

  • By-Election Day: Wednesday 26th November 2025

To check if you are registered, SMS your ID number to 32810 (R1 per SMS), or WhatsApp “Hi” to 060 088 0000 for details from the IEC.

Who Can Vote?

To vote in the by-election, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen,
  • Be 18 or older on election day,

  • Have a valid green bar-coded ID, smart ID card, or temporary ID,

  • Be registered to vote in Ward 90.

Remember: you must vote at the station where you are registered.

Why This Matters

Local councillors are responsible for service delivery, enforcing by-laws, and ensuring our community’s needs are represented in the City of Johannesburg Council

Your vote directly affects issues such as:

  • Roads, water, and electricity,

  • Waste management and public health,

  • Parks and green spaces.

Voter Awareness in Ward 90

The IEC will be present at several community hubs to help with awareness and registration, including Craighall Park (Corner Café and Delta Café area), Dunkeld Corner, Hyde Park Corner, and Sandton City.

On Voting Day

Voting stations will be clearly marked, and the IEC will manage the process. Remember:

  • Only voters may wear political party regalia inside the station.

  • Agents and candidates are not allowed to campaign within the station boundaries.

  • Assistance is available for voters with disabilities
