Since the beginning of July 2024, the CraigPark Residents’ Association (CRA) has been actively engaged in a cleanup project targeting the brick-and-mortar mini substations within the suburb. Over the years, and possibly decades, these areas had accumulated rubble, remnants from fires, discarded blankets, rubbish, overgrown vegetation, and branches encroaching into roofs and gutters. This also attracted vandalism, with cables being stolen, leading to power outages. These outages were not only frustrating for residents but also costly for the City to repair.

We are pleased to report that these issues have been addressed, with the immediate surroundings now tidied up significantly. This cleanup has not only improved the visual appeal but also reduced the risk of fires, minimised the likelihood of further littering, and enhanced overall visibility. The six that we have completed work on are the substations at Somerset / Norfolk; Rothesay / Marlboro; Scout Hall on Buckingham; Hamilton Park; Rutland Avenue; Richmond Avenue.

The CRA remains committed to uplifting dilapidated or deteriorating infrastructure, particularly where the City has not been able to meet its responsibilities. We are now in a strong position to maintain these areas, ensuring they remain clean and presentable.

In addition to this, we have collaborated with CAP, who, through an agreement with City Power, have enhanced the security of these mini substations. This partnership has resulted in reduced incidents of vandalism, theft, and outages, ultimately contributing to the safety and aesthetic appeal of our suburb. CAP will take on the responsibility of custodianship for the keys and access to these substations going forward.

The CRA deeply values the support of its members and appreciates any further contributions to this initiative. Looking ahead, we plan to enhance these areas further by adding lighting and improving fencing. We are committed to keeping Craighall Park safe and beautiful.
